CLEVELAND — American Greetings Corp. is providing a more interactive way to send a birthday greeting.

American Greetings Corp. is providing a more interactive way to send a birthday greeting.

The company said this spring it plans to roll out an innovative new greeting card dubbed On Tap, which combines a funny birthday greeting with an audio-visual element.

When recipients open the birthday card, they’re greeted with a message from a humorous bobble-head character that instructs them to tap somewhere on the card. The character then "unleashes a birthday wish for all to hear, whether it is something they say, sing or pledge to them," according to American Greetings.

With characters like President Barack Obama, a nun, a cheerleader or other fun bobble heads, On Tap offers a greeting card for those who enjoy a good surprise and a little birthday humor, the company noted.

"We’ve been able to literally ‘tap’ into a whole new kind of birthday celebration that is a fun and exciting way to let someone know how special you think they are," Carol Miller, executive director of new product concepts at American Greetings, said in a statement. "This really puts the funny at their fingertips and offers a unique way to make someone smile on their birthday."

Consumers can find On Tap cards at drug store chains, supermarkets and other mass retailers nationwide, as well as in American Greetings and Carlton Cards retail stores.
