MINNEAPOLIS — Target is offering lower prices on thousands of items and expanding its in-store events as families prepare for the upcoming school and college year.
The retailer said 95% of its school supply deals are priced at or below last year’s retail prices. School supplies start at 25 cents; apparel starts at $5; and dorm room storage, décor and bathroom essentials start at $5. Hundreds of college products are priced under $20.
“From picking out a first-day outfit to finding the perfect sheets for your dorm, back-to-school and college is filled with so many meaningful moments, and Target is making them easier for busy families,” said Cara Sylvester, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Target. “With fresh styles, everyday essentials and incredible value all in one place, we’re helping families spend less time shopping and more time celebrating the start of a new school year.”
From July 26 through August 1, Target will host a weeklong savings event featuring discounts of up to 30% on children’s clothing, 25% on children’s shoes, and 30% on uniform polos and dresses. Champion backpacks and lunch products will be 20% off, as will All in Motion backpacks, lunch kits, and hydration products. Teen home décor will be discounted by 30%.
Target will also participate in all applicable state sales-tax holidays. Verified college students and teachers can receive 20% off one storewide purchase through Target Circle during the promotional period, which runs through September 12.
The retailer is expanding its back-to-school events to 2,000 stores on August 8, up from 400 locations last year. The events will feature new Cat & Jack merchandise, giveaways and take-home personalization kits with custom bag tags and stickers. Nearly 800 stores will also showcase new Heyday headphone colors and offer materials for customizing technology accessories.
Target will host back-to-college move-in events at nearly 150 stores beginning August 16. Twenty flagship locations will feature DJs, mascots, product samples and giveaway bags, while 120 additional stores will hold welcome events timed to local college move-in dates.
