Wakefern taps Birdzi to power AI-driven campaigns

Birdzi’s pilot with Wakefern, the largest U.S. supermarket cooperative, greatly boosted campaign ROI.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Birdzi announced that Wakefern Food Corp., the largest retailer-owned supermarket cooperative in the U.S., will implement its customer intelligence platform to strengthen shopper insights and enhance promotional outreach across its banners.

Wakefern, which supports banners including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, and The Fresh Grocer, will deploy Visper, Birdzi’s AI-driven personalized campaign engine, alongside advanced shopper analytics, forecasting, and planning tools. The move follows a successful pilot program that boosted the return on investment for Wakefern’s marketing campaigns.

“From the beginning, Wakefern was impressed by Birdzi’s best-in-class automation and personalization capabilities and the company’s desire for constant innovation,” said Darren Caudill, chief sales officer, Wakefern. “Working with Birdzi enables our supermarket banners to better respond to shopper needs as grocery retail enters an AI-driven era.”

The collaboration comes as AI adoption accelerates across retail: 93% of grocery c-suite executives now believe AI will be essential to remain competitive, up from 81% in 2023. Birdzi’s platform will allow Wakefern to:

  • Heightened outreach and personalization – Birdzi’s platform enables Wakefern to be more creative and responsive with its personalized campaigns and shopper outreach.
  • Sharpened forecasting and planning – Wakefern will leverage data-driven promotional planning to attract new customers and retain shoppers.
  • Comprehensive shopper insights – Birdzi’s deep customer analytics tools provide a nuanced understanding of shopper behavior to optimize campaigns.

“Birdzi is proud to earn the trust of the country’s largest retailer-owned cooperative, and we’re excited to work closely with Wakefern to seamlessly integrate analytics, automated shopper engagement and industry-leading personalization tools to revolutionize the shopping experience,” said Shekar Raman, CEO, Birdzi. “With over 80% of Birdzi customers operating over 100 store locations, the Birdzi platform is mature and equipped to handle the needs of large-scale regional and national retailers.”

Birdzi will demonstrate its customer intelligence platform at booth #1643 at Groceryshop, the global event for grocery and CPG innovation, in Las Vegas, NV, Sept. 28–Oct. 1, 2025.
