Witynski appointed chief operating officer at Dollar Tree

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dollar Tree Inc. has promoted Michael Witynski to the position of chief operating officer. Witynski, 52, will be responsible for operations of Dollar Tree stores in the United States and Canada.

Witynski succeeds Gary Philbin, 58, who assumed the role of president and chief operating officer of Family Dollar Stores when Dollar Tree’s takeover of Family Dollar closed on July 6.

"Mike is an accomplished retailer. He has been a key leader in Dollar Tree’s continued growth and operating performance since joining the company in 2010," Bob Sasser, Dollar Tree’s chief executive officer, said in announcing Witynski’s promotion on July 16. "This leadership appointment is a component of our ongoing integration following our Family Dollar acquisition."

Witynski had been serving as Dollar Tree’s senior vice president of stores.
