Alan Barry named CEO of Lidl US

Barry, who previously held leadership roles with Lidl in Ireland and Great Britain, will assume the role in July

ARLINGTON, VA.— According to published reports, Lidl US has named chief operating officer Alan Barry as its next CEO, a company spokesperson confirmed.

Barry, who previously held leadership roles with Lidl in Ireland and Great Britain, will assume the role in July.

He becomes the latest in a series of executives to lead the German grocer’s U.S. operations since it opened its first stores in the market in 2017.

Lidl’s appointment of Barry to top spot its U.S. operations follows the company’s January announcement that Joel Rampoldt, who had served as Lidl US CEO since 2023, stepped down from the role.

Joel Rampoldt steps down as Lidl CEO
The leadership change comes as Lidl continues to struggle to gain consistent traction in the highly competitive U.S. grocery market.

Marco Giudici, then Lidl US chief customer officer and former CEO of Lidl Romania, assumed the position of interim CEO after Rampoldt’s departure.
